I have a tendency to keep moving and changing things on it in an effort to make it look good. Being black it really stands out from the rest of my decor. I have had flowers in vases on it, lamps..etc. but I've never really been happy with the look. I can't get rid of it though as it is a definite must where I live.
So for now it looks like this... still not 100% happy with it but it will do till I find the perfect piece to compliment it..
I am thinking a lovely birdcage maybe and have been on the lookout for one, but haven't found one that I REALLY like. So what would you put on it.. any other ideas?
take care ladies, Maryann

hi Marion
dont be hard on yourself about your fireplace... have you tried a bigger screen when not in use? of maybe take away fromthe black.. some brighter pinks might do it... eg flowers..and a big vase? to take away the attention from the fireplace?
just a thought....
good luck and have fun hun!.... i find when you think less and just do.. it works great too
*hugs*

We have a similar fireplace in our family room and sometimes I'd just like to get rid of it too, but during the colder months it gives off such a lovely warm heat throughout the house, so it stays! When it's not in use I usually have a vase with some flowers on the top, I don't tend to try and hide it.
Hi Maryann,
I like it just the way it is with all your pretties and the shabby white fire screen.
Oh, you could always paint a very bright fire screen yourself?
Happy creating,
Hugs,
Anna
I have the SAME problem!! Only my wood stove is bigger and has stone behind it,loL! I looove it in the winter time, but don,t like looking at it, tee hee! If I come up with anything, I will let you know!

Hello Maryann,
We have got a black woodburner, hard at work tonight keeping us warm! It is solid and black and we don't pretend it's otherwise. All your pretty, feminine touches only draw attention to the fact that yours also is a big black masculine sort of a stove. Perhaps just give it a log basket to keep it company, and enjoy the heat!
Maryann,
I believe your firebox has a charm of its own! It’s useful on cold days and has a vintage feel so my best advice is to embrace it and enjoy it for what it is. During winter you could have a cute tea kettle sit on top. If you fill it with water it will help humidify the space. Add a charming rug in front and a stylish container to hold the wood. People will flock to it if you add a comfortable chair that invites people to curl up with a good book and a bit of conversation.
Hugs, Cathy
oh I love it!!! but I see how it 'stands" out. I like the above idea of a pretty basket of wood, also love your white screen, perhaps that bird cage you talked about hanging down from the ceiling and a large plant in a white metal container with small black accents like black dots with pink centers would tie things together??
Oh yes, I use to have that corner with an exposed tv and it made me panic everytime I looked at it thinking this house will never be perfect. Now, I also have all black appliances in my kitchen I did not notice until I painted everything white. I love how you have it decorated up, though and the screen is beautiful...You could go larger with the screen and cover it completely, I am not sure how much you use it or embrace it and do a Paris Apartment feel using more black and white with a touch of rose.... I think the way you have done it up is very pretty!
Hugs,
Olivia
