my garden arch inspiration finished..

About a year ago I did a post on "garden arch inspiration'  here ... as I wanted to establish an arch with climbing roses with a seat in the middle. Well I can say it is finally finished!  The roses on the arch still need a bit of climbing to do, especially on one side.. but that will eventually happen (I hope!)

I placed it right along the fence line so everything behind it is in my neighbors yard. I ended up painting the bench today to brighten it up a bit. It still has yet to weather which shouldn't take long in the Aussie sun!

I planted Iris in the back, that have already bloomed and gone.

Miniature roses in the pots have yet to bloom.

This view is from the other side of the arch that is divided by a hedge.

This rose (lavender lassie) is actually planted on the other side of this tree. It's found it's way up the branches and looks ever so lovely against the tiny white blooms that are just dripping off this tree. They look like dainty snowflakes as they fall on the ground and on the bench below.

Once the tree finishes flowering I will trim it back to let the rose on that side have a chance to grow up. On either side I have lavender that I had to cut back by half this morning and under planted is a ground cover with the prettiest pink flowers.

The roses can be seen from other areas in my garden which make it even more beautiful.
Bye for now girls... take care, Maryann

and one more garden arch.. this time in the front..

This week I finally put up my last garden arch. It sits at the entry of my winding side garden and faces my front yard.

I took advantage of all the rain we had this week, which made the ground very soft and easy for me to hammer the bottom spikes into the ground.
I planted 2 climbing roses either side called 'renae' which you can hardly see right now but am hoping this will be smothered in pink roses by summertime..and if you look closely at the drawing Amy did of my home in my side bar you can see that she drew in my arch way back then!

and what's already blooming with spring only a couple of days away!

I'm loving it...take care, Maryann

garden arch progession....

About 8 months ago, I decided to put up an arch along with some climbing roses along my fence line. You can read the original post here with all my inspiration photos. Well here is what it looks like today. With winter just round the corner I don't think it will get any better than this until next spring.

Here is a reminder of what it looked like then...

I put crushed rock at the back and and 3 square stepping stones towards the front.

as you can see the little dianthus on the RHS with the pink dainty flowers are not as big as the one on the LHS. That's because I stuffed up and bought only 1 plant and tried to divide it into 2. Ofcourse it didn't work and the one on the RHS originally died so then I had to wait till the other one grew big enough for me to take a couple of pieces for me to replant. Yeah, I do that a lot buying one plant and dividing it into 2. Doesn't always work.

I'm afraid the pictures don't really bring out how pretty this area is, my camera is not the best. I have planted lavender and dianthus with tiny pink flowers either side, Piere de Ronsard over the arch and another little pink rose in the pots. Towards the back on the RHS I planted some lilac colored iris. I love this little section of the garden and enjoy seeing it every time I hang up the clothes!
Bye for now, take care,
Maryann

garden arch inspiration for my new garden bed..

Hi girls, since we had some trees chops down on the side of the house, that created way too much shade, I've been busy creating new garden beds underneath. We didn't get them chopped completely, we left them about 6ft high so they will fill in again and eventually create a hedge.

all of the above photos were from pinterest... don't you just love a garden arch? I sure do and I wanted to incorporate one into my garden. The pics below are what I'm up to. The arch I bought not long ago from Aldi but everything else I already had lying around. I loved the idea with the urns in front.. hopefully I will replace my plastic ones with nicer ones one day but for now they will do. I also like the idea of pavers under the bench so I used a couple where you can rest your feet. I am planting the pretty rose 'pierre de ronsard' on both sidesof the arch and smaller

dwarf roses in the pots. Please excuse my writing today .. it's all over the place but my cursor has a mind of it's own and i can only write where it will let me!! The photo with the smaller roses is the dwarf and the pic with 2 roses only is the pierre de ronsard. The land you see behind the bench is actually my neighbours. I am hoping in time once the rose fills out it will give me a bit of privacy too. Ok will sign off for today and will post more pics once I have some flowers in... take care, Maryann
